EU Touts Nuclear Talks With Iran

BRUSSELS, Jan 31--European Union Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana says a new round of talks with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili will be positive.

Solana told Alalam Thursday, "My talks with Saeed Jalili last week on details of Iran's nuclear program were not enough; so, another talk between us can be helpful."

He had told a European Parliament meeting in Brussels that Tehran is a key strategic country in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Francis Wurtz, president of the European United Left faction at the European Parliament, told Alalam that his parliamentary fraction's stance is fully clear: "We are against using force to settle disputes over Iran's nuclear program."

He added, "A clear message should be given to the Iranians with the concept that we are not enemies to each other and want a political breakthrough on Tehran's nuclear program which would be consented by all."

Moreover, French National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen told Alalam that like other countries, Iran should not be discriminated against and is entitled to treatments based on an international diplomatic process.

He voiced concern over a recent visit by the US President George W. Bush to the Middle East and his statements during the trip.

The French politician also expressed his worry over French President Nicholas Sarkozy's announcement recently for establishment of a marine military base in the Persian Gulf to reportedly counter Iran.
